Wisdom (Impacted) Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth sometimes require extraction (removing) because of how they affect a person’s overall oral health. Due to their location, third molars tend to be more challenging to clean, making them more likely to develop cavities, gum infections and pain.

What Causes Impacted Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth sometimes never emerge and are never visible in the mouth. Regardless of whether they are visible or not, wisdom teeth can lead to problems in the mouth. A wisdom tooth that is impacted is one that gets stuck under your gums or doesn’t have enough room to grow properly.

Depending on the situation, some people do not have enough room for their wisdom teeth to come in all the way through.  In most people, jaw growth is completed by the time they reach the age of 18, but wisdom teeth usually emerge after the age of 18. Wisdom teeth are most often problematic because they don’t fit well with their immediate neighbors.

In some cases, wisdom teeth grow at an odd angle, resulting into impacted teeth. Wisdom teeth that have been impacted are more likely to develop gum disease, tooth decay, and other dental problems.

Such teeth therefore need to be extracted as a way of alleviating pain, infections and other issues or risks associated with them. Infarct, it is best to have them extracted before they cause decay to other their neighbor teeth or infections to the gum.
